Rose Cottage
Mary Stewart
Mary Stewart’s last novel, Rose Cottage, is a charming novel that blends mystery, romance, and a touch of suspense. The story follows the protagonist, Kate Herrick, widowed in the war, in Summer, 1947 as she revisits her childhood home, Rose Cottage, to receive family papers before the house is sold. As she settles in, Kate uncovers long-buried secrets about her families past, including the mysterious death of her aunt’s previous lover. While discovering old memories and hidden truths, she finds herself drawn to a local man as they take on the clues together.
The key objective of this project was to learn and apply book anatomy and layout structures to a preexisting novel to design and produce two visually stimulating and diverse book covers while correctly formatting its contents through meticulous dimensions. We were to combine and stylize imagery merged with text and typographic qualities to portray underlying narratives. In order to effectively design, it is important to apply hierarchy, rhythm, and proportion to each InDesign document. It is key to understand typographic formatting, with emphasis on pagination and automation for a flawless book layout from the outside wrap to its contents inside the book. Harmoniously, the designs leave a lasting impression on its audience as an aesthetic and unified whole.
