Ahoy!

We are an institute dedicated to bringing awareness of the influence of jazz music, and the history within the people who brought jazz to Sacramento. We aspire to strengthen the bond of hands-on music education and show how it creates connections between the local people and the area. This museum is for students who are interested in music to learn something new about the musical aspect of Sacramento and its history. Hands-on musical activities are available to all students, whether it is to try a new instrument, learn something new, or practice a skill, these activities provide an outlet for the students visiting. Our mission is to invigorate the history of our local community and people; rooted in jazz. Evoking the message that we harmonize with our surroundings and recognize our past to better our future as we inspire passion within upcoming Sacramento music makers.

Learning With a View

Our most unique feature is our 285 foot steam wheel steamboat that operates as our children’s museum. Back in 1969, this boat, the Delta King Riverboat, was used to fundraise the Dixieland Jazz Jubilee. Boats are the oldest form of transportation and also the slowest. We want our visitors to truly appreciate the music & nature surrounding the museum, so having our museum on the Delta King will remind our visitors to slow down & take in the moment.

When concepting the logo for the museum’s identity, it was important to combine the element of music and location in a way that’s exciting to young children, our main demographic. While studying existing brands surrounding children, complimentary colors were common as they create vibrant, eye-catching visuals that are often associated with energy and excitement, which can be appealing to young children.

Business System

The logomark was expanded to formulate a business system including a business card, letterhead & envelope, anything card & envelope. I expanded River N’ Blues identity onto different artifacts including a folder, buttons, a flyer, tickets, and a sailors hat. With each piece of my system I wanted to capture the excitement and playfulness, while staying clean and professional. These pieces will mainly be used for business-to-business interactions.

Experience

To enhance the experience of a guest visiting the museum, I created other print deliverables to extend the visual system throughout different aspects of their experience. This included physical tickets, a flyer, and buttons. To remind guests of their trip, paper sailor hats are available for purchase. The guests transform into the captain of their own ship, reminding them that they are in control of their lives following their experience.
